FALL 2016 :: MINI SESSION Highlights

October 10, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

Our fall family mini sessions at Lone Lake Park, Minnetonka this weekend was a BLAST!  Thank you to all the amazing families who showed up and braved the fall air to capture these classic portraits.  I hope to see a few holiday cards in the mail (hint hint) since I know how creative my clients get with their pictures! ;)  Here are just a few of our many highlights.  Enjoy! - Pamela

Chris + Jenna + Family

October 04, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

With the Minneapolis skyline behind them and just married, they strolled hand-in-hand at Boom Island Park celebrating their love.  6 year later, I met Chris and Jenna at Boom Island Park again but this time with two little ones in hand.  I love a picture that tells a story and this setting was the perfect one to create just that.

We had the perfect Saturday afternoon for a family session: perfectly overcast for those dreamy photos, a subtle wind and a comfortable fall temperature.  Until about 10 minutes before the session.  Caught off guard with no forecast warning about a dark, looming cloud with cold winds and rain, we talked through the options and took our chances anyway.  And I'm glad we did!  The wind didn't phase those adorable wiggly, giggly kids - at all.  And the parents, well, they rocked it.  Chris + Jenna, you have a beautiful family!  Thank you for rolling with all the punches and making it a great afternoon!  Enjoy your preview.

Delivering Wedding Experiences

September 13, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

From initial email correspondence to carefully placing wedding images in the mail I am all about making sure my clients get the most professional, personal experience - from start to finish. I limit the number of couples I accept a year to ensure just that.  We enjoy a casual engagement session, and get together for coffee and drinks several times before the big day.  Our wedding clients aren't just a date on the calendar a year from now.  Getting to know you on the most authentic level is our priority.  It puts the joy in what we do and also helps us create a wedding portfolio that truly reflects you as a couple.  More often than not it feels awkward to call my clients "clients" when in fact they become friends.  After 7 years in the wedding photography business I have to say this year tops it all.  You know who you are... THANK YOU for making this year the best year to date.  Much love. xo!

We are in love with these custom created and designed wedding thumb drives.  Our wedding couples are, too:

"From the personal gifts, coffee gift cards, packaging, designs-- you go above and beyond! Incredible, Pam. For real. I couldn't be happier! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!" - email from July 2016 Bride

Michael + Gabrielle :: Chaska, MN

September 07, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

Gabby's brown eyes sparkled as she gushed about her fiance, Mike while her new ring glittered in the light of the coffee shop window. I didn't get a chance to meet Mike until a week before the wedding.  But after spending an entire wedding day documenting them interact it is clear why she couldn't wait to marry her him.  Her laughter.... his smiling glances... they clearly have a unspoken connection and sweet contentedness together.  Isn't this, after all, why we marry our best friends?

In spite of a rainy day, Michael and Gabrielle's downtown Chaska, MN wedding was a simple and beautiful celebration.  After getting ready at the Grandstays Hotel the groom, Mike, headed downtown to await his bride at the park for a few quiet moments together.  And although their outdoor wedding was brought indoors, the scent of real eucalyptus as table decor, the soft glow of white candles and a ceremony in front of the fireplace made for the romantic wedding atmosphere Gabby anticipated. Post-ceremony, the bridal party walked over to Cy's Bar and Grill for celebratory drinks.  (And for the record, this bridal party was a riot to hang out with and knew how to have a good time.)  And at the end of the day, they escaped the throngs of guests for a few moments of quiet on the dock... hand-in-hand, bare foot and happy.  The sun finally peeked out behind the rain clouds as if to bless them on their new journey ahead.

Thank you, Mike and Gabby, for being wonderful (and fun) to work with.  I wish you both the BEST in the adventure head and look forward to our paths crossing in the near future.  xo!

The journey to find true love ends.
The journey to cherish true love begins.

Brett + Allison :: Barns of Old Glory Farm Wedding

August 24, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

Their outdoor wedding was everything for which they hoped.  The entire day Allison twirled and laughed, reminding me of Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music.  If I didn't have picture proof I'd swear her feet never touched the ground.

Barns of Old Glory, just outside of Rochester, both stuns and welcomes, a venue providing a comfortable vibe with beautiful surroundings.  Their decor, highlighted with bright yellow sunflowers contrasted with light blue attire, was simple yet elegant.  When Brett and Allison aren't having a wedding, they love exploring new places, hiking, spending time with friends and family, and brewing their own beer.  Their fave?  Amber lager.  The moment she dreamed of most?  Standing at the ceremony site with friends and family gathered as they shared their vows to one another.  In fact, there is a story here:

Four eagles burst out from behind the trees swooping up from the Whitewater River bluffs overtop the ceremony site the moment they met at the front of the aisle. It threw me off guard, and the convocation disappeared as quickly as they had appeared.  Brett and Allison told me later that an eagle had flown over the ceremony area signifying to them this was the spot for their wedding when they had come to view the farm this winter!

Can a wedding day actually be perfect?  If so, Brett and Allison did.  I've learned the "perfect wedding" isn't in the details.  (Sorry, Pinterest.) After several years of observing all kinds of weddings I am confident of this: it's joyful couples have perfect weddings. It's the bride who would rather take off her shoes and get the bottoms of her dress a little muddy so she can feel the dirt between her toes. It's that they walk hand in hand to the reception after saying their vows.  It's the couple who doesn't need the world's fanciest wedding cake but would rather dish up ice cream for the kids.  It's the groom who would open wide his arms in the sunset and invite his new wife to lean on him while taking in the final moments of their day.  It's the couple who knows the entire reason they are there in the first place: to marry their best friend and celebrate their love with their closest friends and family.  Brett and Allison had the perfect wedding day because they made it perfect.

Brett and Allison, I hope your honeymoon in Alaska was the restful getaway for which you hoped.  "Thank you" doesn't even begin to express how lucky I feel to have been your wedding photographer.  Getting to know you over the past year has been nothing short of a delight.  I truly wish you both the most incredible adventures as you journey together in marriage!   Let's make sure our paths cross again.

PAIGE :: Class of '17

August 22, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

She likes her music loud, rocks the high heels, and thrives on the vibes of the downtown Minneapolis.  A couple weeks ago I spent Friday night in the city with Paige for her senior pictures.  To reflect her love of music we started out in front of the music mural made famous by Prince.  And with her interest in the finer things in life she suggested photographing near the renowned Guthrie Theater and Stone Arch Bridge.  And of course, I'm in love that plan!  We enjoyed a lovely sunset over the skyline - and even got to witness a joyful "yes!" with a couple who got engaged on the bridge that night. I enjoyed learning about Paige as we walked around downtown.  She has such a beautiful personality and spirit of adventure!  And yet her roots are in the country side where she grew up.  With bare feet, sundress and guitar in hand, we also photographed Paige around her childhood home with its wide open spaces, corn fields and country roads.

Being a flip flop kinda girl myself Paige impressed me in those heels.  But I also know she's willing to throw on a pair of hiking boots!  She just recently returned from a trip to Spain and I'm incredibly excited for her upcoming graduation trip where she will be backpacking Europe with her mom!  If only I can be half as cool as Paige's mom when my daughter graduates.  #lifegoals

Thank you, Paige, for all the adventures on our Senior pictures outings!  Enjoy your blog preview! - Pamela

JACKI :: Class of '17

August 18, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

I was photographing a farm wedding in northern Minnesota when I met Jacki. I immediately liked this girl with her bright, cheerful personality! We chatted during the wedding as she enjoys photography as well, and learned we both live in the Cities. Recently, I had the honor of photographing her Senior pictures. We met over a casual coffee to talk, and listen to her expectations about her pictures. Learning about my Seniors (before I ever take out a camera) is an important part of what I do as a Photographer. Why would anyone want their pictures to look the same as their other classmates?  Every one has a different personality, interests and style to showcase.

Being a simple girl who loves anything to do with the outdoors Jacki suggested having her Senior pictures at Minnehaha Falls near the river and greens. During our evening together, we fought through mosquitoes and extreme humidity - although you could never tell from her glowing smile. In her free time she loves tennis, as well as rollerblading and spending time with friends. This fall, Jacki will to going to school to become a Pediatrics Nurse. She is a beautiful young woman with huge aspirations that include caring for others. The more I learned about Jacki the more I felt like a was talking with a new friend.

Thank you, Jacki, for a beautiful evening and time spent!  Enjoy your blog preview! - Pamela

Adam + Trisha + Family

August 09, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

This outdoor, adventure loving family knows how to have fun together!  Happiness and laughter was the natural theme of our night.  Toddlers are so much fun with all of their energy and zest for life!  Mom suggested meeting at one of their favorite local parks as it marks the age when Alder loved to spend time here.  I couldn't get enough of his mischievous, sweet smile and his curiosity!  As a parent myself I know the challenge of getting everyone into a frame.  His energy kept us all on our toes (but also one reason we have fast cameras and work quickly!)  Family is where we find our True Selves but our simple, every day life together often goes undocumented.  (And is one huge reason I enjoy photographing families.)  Adam + Trisha, it was an honor to spend time with Alder capturing this milestone as well as your love for him.  May these pictures remind Alder of how loved he was by you at "two" and always.  Thank you again. - Pamela

Their family also loves to spend as much time as possible adventuring outdoors so walked through the park, letting Alder lead the way.  And like a good Minnesotan he ended up at the lake.  As it should be.

When I first set out to meet this newly engaged couple at a coffee shop in northern Minnesota to talk about photography for their wedding day I had no idea that 4 years down the road I would meeting them for a family photoshoot in Edina, MN where both of our families are now living near to each other.  Even more, it has been a joy to follow wedding pictures with holiday minis, a maternity session and now, their family pictures.  All of this to say, I feel incredibly lucky to have a job that allows me to meet and document the lives of some of the most wonderful people.  Baby Crew included!  Only 3 months old handsome Crew graces my blog with his joyful smile and oh, those eyes!?  Thank you, Jesse + Karla, again, for the honor of having been able to document your love as it grows into a beautiful family!  - Pamela

Mike + Nicole + Family

August 05, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

As Nicole and I emailed back and forth I couldn't wait to meet this family in person!  Getting to know my families, even before we get out the camera, is hugely important to me.  And so I can ultimately get to the heart of the session I always ask this question beforehand: what do you want your children to remember from their childhood?  Her response is too good not to share:

"That Sawyer was able to explore and figure things out for himself,
that he was loved and protected
but free to enjoy our world."

For Mike and Nicole, family is everything. Together, they treasure simple times at home, local culture and food, as well as grand adventures and travel.  It was my joy and honor to spend the evening documenting their sweet family as they transition from three to four this August.  I loved the little spontaneous moments, like Sawyer wanting to kiss his mom when he saw daddy kissing her, and picking wildflowers for mama's hair....

Thank you, Mike + Nicole, for a delightful evening.  And thank you for sharing this wonderful family quote of yours:

"Nothing is worth sharing like the love that let us share our names." - Avett Bros

Isaac + Steph + Family

July 29, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

Isaac and Steph drove up from Rochester to meet at Bush Lake Park in Bloomington, MN for their family session. Their daughter, Heidi, was in good spirits and ready to play after the car ride, and the cool evening air was a welcome relief after a hot, humid day.  Steph thoughtfully incorporated a single white balloon to celebrate sweet baby Heidi who recently turned one!  Heidi is described by her parents as a curious, happy girl who loves to snuggle.  As a family, their Saturday may look like this: late breakfasts, naps, afternoon walks, face timing grandparents and relaxing on the back porch with a BBQ.  It was important their pictures told the story of her family in a natural, casual environment.  And that's one reason I love the the simplicity of their images - location quickly becomes the background, and joy the forefront, especially when you're enjoying family time.  Thank you, Isaac + Steph, for a wonderful evening together.  - Pam

Tyler + Sara + Family

July 14, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

Adoption is a beautiful way to grow a family.  When Sara contacted me several months pregnant with what she called their "sweet surprise" I sensed her excitement to have family photos that welcomed Cameron into their world.  The day finally arrived... but 4 week old Cameron wasn't too excited about having his pictures taken. However, Sara and Tyler rocked it.  They were a beautiful family to work with as they stayed calm, and let the session - and the kids - go where they will.  We don't mind being spontaneous so we just roll with it!  And we STILL got three wiggly kids under the age of 3 into a frame - with smiling parents.

Tyler and Sara, thank you for the honor of documenting this new beginning.  It is truly a blessing to have met your completely adorable family! - Pamela

This rock is "blue".  Just an FYI.

I am for expression + giggles + joy.  Not for perfectly tied shoulder dresses.  Isn't she the sweetest thing?

P.S. I always preface my families with newborns that I am a lifestyle photographer.  Anne Geddes and I are nearly polar opposites.  A huge shout out to all photographers specializing in newborns.  You guys seriously rock.

PHIL + ASHLEY :: MN Bluff Country Wedding

June 22, 2016  •  2 Comments

They went to the same high school but never talked.  All the while Phil had a silent crush on Ashley.  Everything changed the summer of 2012 when Ashley showed up at the Pony Espresso. Phil was working their family owned traveling drink stand when Ashley started buying smoothies.  Every day.  They began chatting on Facebook and texting when finally Phil got the courage to ask her out on a date where they enjoyed a romantic dinner.

Fast forward two and half years and a successful long distance relationship.  Phil had just moved back to Minnesota after getting his degree out of state.  Finally, they could be together again.  The first night after they moved into their apartment Phil posed the question:

I came up behind her and put my arms around her and told her what she meant to me.  She turned around and I got down on one knee and proved what she meant to me.  Her words: you finally did it!

Phil is currently an Athletic Trainer at Winona State University while Ashley owns a flower shop in Preston, MN.  (Her wedding florals were designed by none other than her creative self.)  Together, they love going to different coffee shops, walks, movies, day trips, trying new restaurants, golfing and campfires. And their wedding day reflected their simple, adventurous, comfortable and fun relationship.  Even the rain storm that threatened their outdoor wedding didn't phase them - they were getting married!  Nothing would stop them from laughing and celebrating their love with friends and family.

Phil and Ashley, joy radiates from you.  As you journey together I trust the adventures will only get better!  Thank you for being the best kind of people I could hope to work with.  It's been an honor to document your story.  xoxo!

(Left) Ashley with her dad and (right) the groomsmen and her brother on her left The rainstorm arrived just in time for the 4pm ceremony. The flowers were rescued while guests arrived and waited under the tent for the rain to subside. The rain ended up being a blessing as it cooled the humid air and stopped in time for us to have a beautiful wedding! A photo from the groom's parents wedding who were married on the same property.
