They met in the Bahamas where friendship grew into long distance love. After two years of correspondence and flying back and forth between northern Minnesota and the Bahamas, Evander and Lacy were finally getting married! Their story couldn't be more dreamy!
From the bride:
"My cousin Gina invited me to go down Spanish Wells, Bahamas for a Bible conference. We ended up staying with Evander's family. He had returned home for the conference as well. I'm pretty shy but after a few days of being there I found myself wanting to spend more and more time with Evander. He took me on rides on his motorbike, went snorkeling, boating and stayed up late every night getting to know each other. I literally felt like I was in a movie - it was all so surreal! After seeing how Evander interacted with his family and friends, along with mine, I knew that he was the one. It only took 5 days for me to come that realization and one day later he asked me to be his girlfriend, on May 28, 2012. We hit it off ever since! Skype has been our companion and after several visits between Minnesota and the Bahamas over the last 2 years we are finally getting married!! I'm so blessed to have Evander and so thankful that the Lord has brought such a honest, fun, loving person into my life!" - Lacy
Because Evander is from the Caribbean and would be whisking his Minnesota bride to their new home in the Bahamas, Lacy wanted to create a wedding with a hint of the Caribbean! But growing up on a farm, Lacy also loves the rustic chic look. She blended both themes together with treasures from vintage shops and airy, light colors that reminded her of the ocean. I loved that Lacy wanted a simple, pretty wedding placing most of her focus the story of their love! (After all, celebrating love is what a wedding is really is all about, right?) They chose to have their First Look photos at the local airport since Evander is a pilot and travel has been so much a part of their lives. "Destination" was a natural part of their theme. It was cold for a spring day, but it couldn't have been more perfect!
I truly couldn't have imagined nicer (and HAPPIER) people to spend the day with! Wedding party, families, guests from all over the world - I loved meeting everyone! Gina, Jenny, Alyssa, Daniella and Briana, thank you how you cared for Lacy, for the laughs and your willingness to be flexible and adventurous, especially in such crazy weather! Evander had a gentlemanly group of guys at his side as well. My favorite? When Evander's younger brother couldn't stop giggling during the groomsmen photos.
If I can be honest, the most difficult part of the day was saying good-bye. After spending several months getting to know Lacy and then spending an entire day documenting their wedding story as it unfolded (experiencing all the anticipation, emotion and love...sigh) you kinda can't help but fall in love with these two amazing people! (Those darn tears!)
Evander and Lacy, I don't know how to express my gratitude for the honor of celebrating your wedding day with you! And Lacy, I've loved all our coffee dates and correspondence. Getting to know you has been a blessing and I'm doubly blessed by our new friendship! (I plan on taking you up on that visit to the Bahamas!) Thank you for reminding us of the Great Love that brought you together and covers your marriage as you journey together, for the rest of your lives! Here's to no more good-byes!
Evander and Lacy held their wedding reception at the Sportsman Lodge in Baudette, MN. The wedding party arrived to the Lego song, Everyone is awesome! Lacy decorated the guest sign-in with a rustic chic and Caribbean flair!
Not just any candy... Caribbean candy, including fudge! De-lish. (Of course I had to try a piece!)
Anyone who has been married realizes later how quickly the wedding day goes by. As a Photographer I love giving the bride and groom as many opportunities to slip away from the throngs of guests to spend a few celebrate a moment alone. It's always worth it...
Evander brought sand from the Bahamas to mix with Minnesota sand for the unity sand pouring at the ceremony....
